A Crazy Quilt Life
published 2022

My memoir came into being because my children, in their late twenties and late thirties, began asking me questions about my childhood. A crazy quilt piece hand worked by my mother (pictured on the left) played a prominent part in eliciting my stories.
I wasn't really that enthusiastic about writing my memoir. I didn't think I was old enough or had lived a life that warranted recording. With much encouragement from my husband, children and writing friends, I kept writing the stories and eventually compiled them into a book. I included my thoughts around major events that occurred in my lifetime.
My mother was a profound influence on my life not just as a child, but as an adult. As I said in the book, two of the greatest things she ever instilled in me was curiosity and persistence. I hope reading my story will help others see that the stories of everyday people are important.
Reviews for A Crazy Quilt Life
BF: I can hear her soft speaking voice as I read; quite a contrast to the loud and dramatic life challenges she experiences along the way. As a Northerner recently moved to North Carolina, I found her Southern Exposures heart warming. Family life, generational tradition, strength, support, sacrifice. I love the natural backdrop, the mountains and grass, the rivers, learning how to fish, learning how to sew and quilt, learning how to garden and grow things.
